Uche Fuels Comfortable Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their maiden European campaign, Oliver Glasner's side are learning very quickly. Missing star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding result that all but guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
A further victory in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to secure straight entry to the last 16, particularly following a prior stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Moment
This match offered a platform for some of Palace's fringe players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne team that had finished their league season were outmatched even for a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg injuries.
Dominance Asserted from the Start
In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close minutes later, fizzing a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official dismissed the protests.
The formerArsenal man didn't need to wait long to get his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's shot had struck the post.
The home side were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for development in his game.
A solitary concern for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
